KBRN, Jakarta: State-owned electricity firm PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) has inaugurated a Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS), known as Stasiun Pengisian Bahan Bakar Hidrogen (SPBH), in Senayan, Jakarta.

This marks Indonesia's first infrastructure supporting hydrogen-fueled, environmentally friendly vehicles.

PLN IP President Director Edwin Nugraha Putra said that the SPBH demonstrates a tangible commitment to supporting the energy transition in the transportation sector. He envisions green hydrogen as the nation's future energy source.

The company is taking swift action to develop green hydrogen by establishing upstream and downstream infrastructure, including this hydrogen refueling station.

"PLN Indonesia Power has developed green hydrogen, starting from the upstream through our Green Hydrogen Plant (GHP), and now on the downstream side with this Hydrogen Refueling Station," Edwin said in a written statement received by rri.co.id on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

According to Edwin, the SPBH is part of the national roadmap for hydrogen energy development and hopes to serve as an initial model for developing similar infrastructure in other cities.

"In the coming years, the presence of SPBH at various points will be a crucial key in realizing hydrogen-based transportation. A synergy between the government, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector can create widespread impactful green innovation, accelerating the achievement of Indonesia's net-zero emission target," he asserted.

Meanwhile, Priok Generation Business Unit General Manager Buyung Arianto said that the capacity of the SPBH Senayan will be continuously increased, and the refueling duration will be further shortened for optimal service.

"Currently, the SPBH Senayan has a Hydrogen Refueller with a Charging Pressure (CP) of 350 bar and a refueling speed of less than 5 minutes. In the future, we will enhance its specifications to 700 bar with a refueling speed of less than 3 minutes," Buyung Arianto explained.

The construction of the SPBH Senayan is part of PT PLN and its sub-holdings' strategy to achieve the net-zero emission target and further support the energy transition in Indonesia's transportation sector.

Since 2023, PLN has operated a Green Hydrogen Plant (GHP) or hydrogen production facility at 22 locations, 13 of which are owned by PLN IP.

Here is the list of PLN IP-owned GHP locations, differentiated by power plant type (PLTU, PLTGU, PLTP):

Coal-Fired Power Plant (PLTU - Coal Fired Power Plant)

PLTU Pangkalan Susu - North Sumatra

PLTU Suralaya 1-7 - Banten

PLTU Suralaya 8 - Banten

PLTU Labuan - Banten

PLTU Lontar - Banten

PLTU Pelabuhan Ratu - West Java

PLTU Adipala - Central Java

Combined Cycle Power Plant (PLTGU - Combined Cycle Power Plant)

PLTGU Cilegon - Banten

PLTGU Tanjung Priok - Jakarta

PLTGU Tambak Lorok - Central Java

PLTGU Grati - East Java

Gas Turbine Power Plant (PLTG - Gas Turbine Power Plant)

PLTG Pemaron - Bali

Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP - Geothermal Power Plant)

PLTP Kamojang - West Java

With these 13 GHP units, PLN Indonesia Power has a production capacity of 80 tons per year, contributing 40 percent of PLN's total GHP output.

Annually, 32 tons of the green hydrogen produced are allocated to meet power plant operational needs, specifically for cooling generators. The remaining 48 tons are available for various other applications.

"As a concrete effort in ensuring upstream hydrogen supply readiness, PLN has been operating GHPs at 22 locations since 2023, with 13 of them belonging to PLN Indonesia Power," he concluded. ***
