Minister Sugiono Affirms Indonesia's Commitment to Palestine Before Palestinian Special Envoy

KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Monday (17/3/2025) received a visit from the Special Envoy of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Al-Habbash in Jakarta. The meeting discussed the latest developments in Palestine and the challenges faced both in Gaza and the West Bank as well as East Jerusalem including the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In the meeting, Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia will continue to be at the forefront in supporting Palestine, both through diplomacy, humanitarian assistance, and support for the Gaza reconstruction process.

"Indonesia rejects any efforts that change the demographics of Palestine and will continue to play an active role in supporting the Two-State Solution," he said, quoted from an official statement.

The two also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to the deadlock in ceasefire negotiations and the importance of post-war reconstruction.

"The Indonesian government is working with civil society and philanthropic institutions to send more aid, including the construction of a Mother and Child Hospital in Gaza," said Sugiono.

Meanwhile, Mahmoud Al-Habbash expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's consistent position in supporting the Palestinian struggle. In particular, he also expressed his gratitude to the Government and people of Indonesia for the humanitarian assistance provided by Indonesia, especially for the people of Gaza.

"I hope that this cooperation in providing humanitarian assistance can continue to be improved through close coordination with the Palestinian Authority Government," he said.

The visit of the Special Envoy of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Al-Habbash to Indonesia is to convey a special message from President Mahmoud Al-Habbash to the President of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition to meeting the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Al-Habbash will also meet with the leaders of the People's Consultative Assembly, House of Representative, religious organizations, and attend the Ramadhan agenda at the Istiqlal Mosque on March 15-19, 2025.
