KBRN, Central Sulawesi: Central Sulawesi Governor Anwar Hafid received a courtesy visit from national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia's new Palu Branch Manager, Moh. Hafiz Arsan Haq, at his office on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

The meeting reaffirmed Garuda Indonesia's commitment to strengthening ties with the regional administration.

Hafiz announced that the airline currently operates a branch office at Mutiara Sis Aljufri Airport in Palu and plans to open a new service office next year to improve public access.

"God willing, we will open a new office next year to provide more optimal service for the community," he said.

Governor Anwar welcomed the initiative and highlighted the airline's critical role in boosting regional connectivity and development. He also underscored the province's push to upgrade Mutiara Sis Aljufri Airport to international status.

"We are lobbying for the airport to become an international hub. It would allow Hajj pilgrims from Central Sulawesi to depart directly from Palu and support the continued growth of our tourism sector," he explained.

The governor further encouraged Garuda Indonesia to consider increasing the number of direct morning flights from Jakarta to Palu, saying it would improve accessibility, stimulate economic activity, and attract more tourists.

In response, Hafiz acknowledged the importance of the proposal and said the current Palu-bound flights operate in the morning. Still, efforts are underway to make Jakarta departures available even earlier.

"We will convey this request to headquarters. The central team will analyze to determine the next strategic steps," he stated.

To conclude the meeting, Hafiz presented Governor Anwar with a miniature model of a Garuda Indonesia aircraft, symbolizing continued collaboration between the national airline and local administration. ***
